Through the principle of Genetic Continuity, all first Lines have a relationship to each other. They share a similar function in acting as the foundation of the structure. This can also be said of all other lines in that all 64 variations of each line of each hexagram have a structural relationship to each other.
There are six primary Role Gates, 10/7/1/13/59/27. The Lines of these Role Gates provide themes for understanding the structural values of similar Lines in other Hexagrams. As an example the names associated with Profile are derived from the tenth Gate of Behavior.
The Roles Gate general themes are:
10: The behavior of the self in the now;
7: The role of the self in Leadership;
1: The role of the self as a model;
13: The role of the self in interaction;
59: The genetic imperative to make more;
27: The genetic imperative to nurture.
(Note: Technically, Gate 7 is the Role of the Self in interaction with the Other, while Gate 13 is the Listener, the Taking in of the Other. In the myBodyGraph dictionary, the emphasis for Gate 7 is placed on its leadership and projected attitude (what one puts out in interaction), while Gate 13 highlights the interactive quality of taking in the other, which is why the language of interaction appears there as well.
